Frankfort, KY – Teaching positions in Kentucky's technology centers are not being filled because of the two percent spending cuts for state agencies ordered last month by Governor Steve Beshear. Doctor Dale Winkler is Director of Kentucky's office of Career and Technical Education. He says the cuts require him to reduce his budget by half a million dollars in the 2012 fiscal year. As a result he's put a hiring freeze on six to nine teachers which he says will affect about a thousand high school students.
"It will be a horrible condition for the high schools to try and find places for these students. So we're asking for a reprieve of that, but we're waiting for the budget office to tell us if we'll receive that reprieve."
