Murray, KY – The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency says some air quality measures in 2010 were slightly worse than the year before. The EPA issued its annual report Monday. It says air quality measured at the agency's 80 monitoring sites overall was good or moderate 91 percent of the time throughout Illinois. That's compared with 96 percent in 2009. There were 32 days in 2010 when air quality was considered unhealthy for sensitive groups in certain areas, compared to 13 days in 2009. EPA officials saying overall air quality is still good, especially with good or moderate ratings in the 90 percent range. The EPA measures for a variety of pollutants, including toxins,ground-level ozone and fine particles, or soot.Most pollutants have decreased steadily over the last decade.
