Frankfort, KY – Attention is Frankfort is now shifting from yesterday's inauguration to the upcoming regular session of the Kentucky General Assembly. During his inaugural address, the governor made references to tax reform, expanded gambling, and early childhood education. Al Cross, who directs the Institute for Rural Journalism and Community Issues at the University of Kentucky, observes Governor Beshear has not yet made his mark on history.
"He hasn't a lot to show for the first term, but I think people are expecting him to leave some kind of legacy in the second," said Cross.
Political observers expect to see more back scratching' during the upcoming session of the Kentucky General Assembly Cross, who's a retired-journalist, adds Governor Beshear is working to connect with Republican members of the state senate.
"Well he's reaching out to the Republicans in the senate and I've talked to some of them who say they want to have a better working relationship so we might actually get a few things done gonna have to do some horse trading but that's politics hasn't been enough horse trading needs to get back to regular order as they say," added Cross.
The general assembly convenes for the 2012 legislative session on January third.
