High regional precipitation in past year

By Rose Krzton-Presson

Murray, KY – Spring flooding tops the National Weather Service's 2011's top ten weather events in our region. Meteorologist Jim Packett says the extreme amounts of rainfall that caused the flooding were consistent throughout the rest of the year, too.

"Most of it fell in the spring, and in the fall, and even up to this point. We had our routine thunderstorms coming through every so many days so it didn't get really dry or anything but it was very hot."

Packett says the current rain cycle is due to the oscillation of the La Nina system. Packett doesn't expect precipitation to stop anytime soon.
