Murray, KY – Calloway County Democratic Party Chairman Hal Kemp is announcing his bid for the Democratic nomination for the Kentucky's Fifth District House seat. Kemp, who owns the Dairy Queen restaurant in Murray, says economic development and education are top priorities for him. But he says the economic focus shouldn't just be on new businesses. Kemp says,
"You know we always look to bring in new businesses and I am for that and I want to continue trying to bring in new businesses. But we have a lot of businesses here in the community that I think the state should be helping to expand."
Kemp says his business experience and connections in Frankfort give him an advantage over others who might seek the position. He ran for the office once before in 2006 but lost to current Fifth District Representative Melvin Henley. Henley recently announced he won't be running for re-election.
