Murray, KY – State lawmakers are reacting to the announcement that Illinois-based Sears Holdings Corporation plans to close up to 120 of its stores nationally. Governor Pat Quinn says the news doesn't directly affect Sears' agreement to keep its headquarters in the state, and he hopes Sears won't close its Illinois locations. The company says the list of stores being closed hasn't been finalized yet. The decision to close stores was made public less than two weeks after Quinn signed legislation guaranteeing the company $15 million dollars in tax breaks. State Senator Ira Silverstein says he feels betrayed, and company officials should explain whether they knew about the potential store closings when lawmakers were considering the tax breaks.
