Murray, KY – Much of our region saw a glimpse of winter weather this morning. Many areas in western Kentucky and Tennessee saw a dusting of an inch or less of snowfall with little accumulation while some parts of southern Illinois saw up to two inches with some of it sticking around. McCracken County Emergency Management Meteorologist Beau Dodson says the snow resulted from a storm system moving out of the area.
"Typically when a storm moves away, it pulls in a little colder air on the back side of it. So the very back edge of the rain turned over to snow. Probably about 100-150 mile wide band of snow from West to East that pushed through the area."
Dodson says the weather should be fairly calm for the remainder of the week with chances of rain on Sunday. He says projections after that aren't clear as of yet, but many models project cold air settling in throughout the region with a chance of some storm activity.
