Murray, KY – The region has experienced steady rainfall in recent weeks. Meteorologist Jim Packett of Paducah's National Weather Service says precipitation has been plentiful throughout 2011.
"We typically do have wet springs around here but last year was an exception. It was exceptionally wet because of the overall synoptic (what does synoptic mean?) pattern that the northern hemisphere was in. That same pattern is going on right now and that's why we've been getting rain so often."
Packett says if the rain continues through the winter, it could cause a problem next spring.
"Hopefully it will back off a little bit; therefore allowing us to dry out a little bit because if we continue to get this amount of rain all winter long, then when we get convective rains in the spring with thunderstorms and whatnot, we could be in worse trouble than last year."
