Kentucky Youth Advocates Summit Planned

By KPR

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Youth Advocates is planning a "Summit to End Child Abuse Deaths" to gather ideas on how to improve the state's child-protection system. Recent news stories about several deaths - including 9-year-old Amy Dye who was beaten to death by her adoptive brother - have prompted lawmakers to vow to make changes. KYA executive director Terry Brooks says the January 14th meeting is meant to develop practical solutions to the flaws in the child welfare system. Senator Joey Pendleton of Hopkinsville said at a hearing last month that the system failed Amy Dye and will fail another child if lawmakers don't act.
