Beshear to Appoint Commission to Study Tax Reform

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear plans to appoint a new commission to review the state's tax code and recommend reforms. The Governor says Lieutenant Governor Jerry Abramson will lead the commission through several months of study over the coming year. A consultant will also review the kinds of tax reforms that have worked in other states. Beshear says he'll challenge the commission to recommend changes making the tax code fair, competitive, simple and adequate to fund state services. Beshear says waiting until next year to propose tax reforms allows time to build consensus and for the state's economic recovery to take hold.
