From NPR: Members of Congress are asking why the FBI and Justice Department didn't tell them earlier about an investigation into CIA Director David Petraeus. But the legal authority for reporting such sensitive information to lawmakers is murky.

Kentucky: Jerry Wayne Walker, Jr. is set to appear in Calloway Circuit Court this morning for a hearing on six tampering with evidence charges related to a 1998 Murray State dorm fire that killed a fellow student. Officials are evacuating more than two dozen homes near a train derailment that occurred two weeks ago in southwestern Jefferson County. Geologists say the 4.3 magnitude earthquake that shook eastern Kentucky over the weekend was not induced by the region's underground mining activity. The widow of a Fort Campbell soldier killed in a blast in Afghanistan is suing the National Geographic Society and Fox Cable Networks for airing images of her family in a documentary about a combat hospital. Kentucky wildlife officials say the death of a Paducah man while deer hunting was accidental.

Tennessee: Tennessee smokers participating in the Great American Smokeout Thursday can quit with free help from the Tennessee Tobacco QuitLine. A recent poll shows Republican Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has strong bipartisan support among that state’s voters.

Shelly Baskin works in MSU's Office of Regional Outreach and is a graduate student in Occupational Safety and Health. A roustabout from Memphis, Tennessee, Shelly first found his way into WKMS through the newsroom back in 2011 through luck, charm and force of will. Though he left news for another position, he still enjoys working on independent radio projects and volunteering for the station. He’s an avid disc golfer and occasional real golfer and is terrible at both. A lover of all things musical, Shelly is always ready to hear something new and unique.
