TVA Building Dry Storage For Coal Ash At Cumberland Fossil Plant

BRENT MOORE / FLICKR (CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSE)

The Tennessee Valley Authority is planning to construct several additions to the Cumberland Fossil Plant southwest of Clarksville.TVA announced the plan Thursday as part of the utility’s commitment to move from wet to dry storage of coal ash and other coal combustion residuals for all their coal-fired plants.

The new additions include a bottom ash dewatering facility, new process water basins and a new dry storage landfill for coal ash and other CCR’s.

The new dry storage landfill will be built on a portion of TVA property and eliminates the need to transport on public roadways.

TVA announced the construction of a dry ash storage facility for the Shawnee Fossil Plant in Paducah in 2017.
