A local couple has donated $100,000 to Murray-Calloway County Parks.

Director Ryan Yates said Jimmy and Dot Rickman made the donation over the weekend.

Yates said the board will meet to decide how the money will be used. He said the parks’ top priorities include renovating the playground at Chestnut Park and infrastructure improvements.

“Just anything to make it more accessible...that’s one of our biggest things...just anything to make the parks more accessible for all,” Yates said.

Yates said he and the park’s planning and construction committee hope to use the money to apply for grants that require matching funds. He said doing so will be an effort to maximize the donation’s potential.

The couple also donated $55,000 for the park’s disability-friendly playground earlier in the summer.
