A $400,000 maintenance and repair project on the U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge in Paducah is nearing completion.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials in a release Tuesday said the bridge could be open to traffic by the end of the week, more than a month ahead of the original November 1 target date.
Contractors are working on the final preparations for the opening, including new signage and additional maintenance efforts. Officials said they are working to eliminate illegal truck traffic on the bridge with efforts such as a barricade and more visible postings of the bridge weight limit.
After the bridge reopens, the KYTC said work will continue on the bridge in the coming months.
