School District Closures Due To Coronavirus

Governor Andy Beshear is requesting all public and private K-12 schools close and remain closed for two weeks due to the Coronavirus threat.

UPDATE: As of March 14th, Governor Beshear has said that all 172 school districts in Kentucky have complied with his request to close for at least two weeks starting Monday.

During a press conference Thursday, Beshear said the recommendation is not a mandate. Many school districts across the state and west Kentucky have announced closures because of Beshear’s request.

 

Find a list of school districts announcing closures in the Purchase and Pennyrile regions below:

  • Ballard County Schools will close Monday, March 16. 

 

  • Calloway County Schools will close Monday, March 16, for a period of two weeks. Students are expected to attend school Friday, March 13, to receive information regarding a Non-Traditional Instruction Plan.

 

  • Christian County Public Schools will close Monday, March 16, through April 10. Students, teachers and staff are expected to still report to school Friday, March 13.
     

  • Community Christian Academy will close Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20.  
     

  • Crittenden County Schools will not have classes on Friday, although they will meet Friday to finalize plans to abide by the Governor's request. They should announce their plans by 3 pm on Friday.

  • Daviess County Public Schools will close March 16 through April 6.

  • Fulton County Schools will close Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27.
     

  • Fulton Independent Schools will close Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27.

     

  • Hopkins County Schools will close Monday March 16, through Friday, April 10. Students are expected to attend school Monday, April 13.

 

  • Graves County Schools will close Monday, March 16, through Friday March 27. School will be in session Friday, March 13, to share plans with students.
     

  • Lyon County Schools will be closed until Monday, March 30. Non-traditional instruction for students will start Tuesday, March 17.
     

  • Marshall County Schools will close Friday, March 13, through April 20. Information will be sent regarding a Non-Traditional Instruction Plan through an automated phone call and through email.
     

  • St. Mary's School System will close March 16 through March 30.

 

  • Mayfield Independent Schools will close for at least two weeks, starting Monday, March 16. Students are encouraged to attend school Friday, March 13 to share plans.
     

  • McCracken County Public Schools will be out for two weeks from March 16-27. On Friday, the school board approved applying for 10 non-traditional days so students can continue lessons during the two-week closure. The district is also discussing plans to bring meals to students during the closure.
     

  • McLean County Schools will close Monday, March 16.
     

  • Muhlenberg County Public Schools will close Monday, March 16.
  • Murray Independent School District will close Monday, March 16 through March 29. Kids' Company will also be closed, and the district says it will not offer any childcare during the above time frame. Also as part of the closure, all extracurricular activities, including practices, are canceled and no community events will be hosted on school property.
     
  • Paducah Public Schools will close Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27. Faculty and staff are expected to report Monday and Tuesday, with Non-Traditional Instruction expected to begin for students Wednesday, March 18.
