The widow of a Fort Campbell soldier killed in a blast in Afghanistan is suing the National Geographic Society and Fox Cable Networks for airing images of her family in a documentary about a combat hospital. Donnice Roberts filed the lawsuit this month in federal court in Texas.

A recent poll shows Republican Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has strong bipartisan support among that state’s voters. The Middle Tennessee State University poll shows about 75 percent of Republicans and Independents approve of Governor Haslam, along with 54 percent of Democrats.

People living within a half-mile radius of the site of a Paducah & Louisville Railway derailment in Jefferson County are facing another set of evacuations. Emergency Management  Spokesperson Jody Duncan says the evacuation affects 31 homes. That is just a fraction of those affected in the initial evacuation almost two weeks ago after a chemical fire erupted at the site.

The U.S. Geological Survey says an earthquake centered in Kentucky also hit at least eight other states. The USGS website says the epicenter of the 4.3 magnitude earthquake Saturday afternoon was about 10 miles west of Whitesburg, near the Virginia line.

Visitors to Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area will be hiking and biking along a new scenic trail between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. The Central Hardwoods Scenic Trail runs east and west, parallel to U.S. 68/Kentucky 80.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into a Saturday incident where Clarksville police shot and killed man outside his home. Police spokesman Jim Knoll says officers responded Saturday night to a man threatening to kill himself, his wife and anyone who tried to enter his home.

A new partnership being launched in Tennessee is seeking to curb complications during birth. “Healthy Tennessee Babies are Worth the Wait” is an effort by the Tennessee Department of Health, March of Dimes, Tennessee Center for Patient Safety, Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care and Tennessee Hospital Association.

About 20 local governments and other agencies will share more than $1.1 million in grants to develop and maintain recreational trails across Kentucky. The money will also help pay for the acquisition of easements and for trailhead facilities for motorized and non-motorized use.

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam won't change how the executive branch handles open records requests. Haslam says his initial concerns about the abuse of open records laws have been put to rest. He has instructed his cabinet to expedite getting records to the public and news media.
