Adkins Calls For Free Community College, Skills Training

LRC Public Information

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rocky Adkins has offered a plan to provide free community college and job training for adults in Kentucky.

Adkins said Thursday his plan calls for two years of tuition-free community or technical school for all high school graduates and adults who haven't earned a credential.

Adkins, the top Democrat in the Kentucky House, didn't immediately say how much the program would cost or how he would pay for it. Under his plan, the state would pay the amount of tuition not covered by scholarships and federal grants.

Adkins says the proposal would boost workforce development and spur economic growth across the state.

Four Democrats are seeking this year's Democratic gubernatorial nomination. The others are Attorney General Andy Beshear, ex-state Auditor Adam Edelen and frequent candidate Geoff Young.
