Beshear Reports 776 New Cases Of COVID-19

Governor Andy Beshear reported 776 new cases of coronavirus in Kentucky today. He said 91 of those cases are children under 18 years of age.

He said the positivity rate is 3.89%. Beshear said 565 Kentuckians are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 and 125 are in the ICU. He said 75 people are currently on a ventilator. 

Beshear said the total cases, going back to March 6, is 58,764. He confirmed eight new deaths, bringing the total to 1,082.

Beshear said in K-12 schools an 41 additional students and 6 staff and faculty members have tested positive for the virus. In colleges and universities, another four students have tested positive. He said in long-term care, 18 new residents and 22 new staff have tested positive. Six new deaths are attributed to long-term care facilities.

Mark Carter is in charge of contact tracing in the state and said Kentucky has added more staff members to the effort. He said they are not at budget capacity and still have an additional 120-130 spots they could fill, if needed.
