Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear in Tuesday’s media briefing on the coronavirus said the commonwealth is experiencing continued “exponential” growth in COVID-19 cases. Beshear reported 2,690 cases of coronavirus, the second highest daily number reported on a Tuesday. He hopes Kentuckians will be cautious during the Thanksgiving holiday to slow down the growth.
Tuesday’s reporting now brings the state to 162,838 total COVID cases. The state’s positivity rate is now at 8.82%. The state reported 1,658 Kentuckians in the hospital with COVID-19, up 85 people from Monday. Beshear also reported 390 people with COVID-19 receiving intensive care treatment and 207 people on a ventilator.
There were also 17 new deaths Tuesday, bringing the total number ever in the commonwealth to 1,809.
Calloway County Health Department reported 35 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. The total number of confirmed cases ever in Calloway County is now at 1,616. Officials report 1,356 positive cases have recovered, 229 are isolated at home, 8 are hospitalized, and 23 have died.
As of Nov. 24, the positivity rate of testing done at Murray-Calloway County Hospital is 13.81%.
According to Johns Hopkins University of Medicine, a 14-day self quarantine is recommended for those who travel to states reporting a COVID-19 positivity test rate equal to or greater than 15%.
Beshear ended his briefing by asking Kentuckians to stay safe during the holiday and to wear a mask.
“This Thanksgiving, please do it safely. We have a lot to be thankful for, even in these times,” he said.
