Brian Laird Named Next Paducah Police Chief

The Paducah Police Department has a new Police Chief starting next year. The Paducah City Commission named Monday night Brian Laird as the next chief. 

According to a release, Laird joined the Paducah Police Department as a patrol officer in 2001 and has served and supervised in all divisions of the department. He most recently served as Assistant Chief of the Support Services Division.

Laird grew up in Metropolis, Illinois. He has a Bachelor's degree from Murray State University and a Master's degree from the University of Louisville.

He replaces Chief Brandon Barnhill who retires at the end of December.

Laird begins on January 1st.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
