Gov. Beshear Wishes Kentuckians A Merry Christmas As Vaccines Roll Out

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear in a press release Wednesday announced more state leaders received COVID-19 vaccines, and praised Kentuckians for their ongoing efforts against the spread of coronavirus. 

Beshear said  Lt. Gov. Jacqueline ColemanCourt of Appeals Chief Judge Denise G. Clayton, acting Kentucky State Police Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr., and Emergency Management Director Michael Dossett received their vaccines. Beshear said reports indicate Kentucky is making positive headway against the virus. 

“This war is far from over, but we’ve won another battle, beating back exponential growth of this virus in our state before Christmas,” he said. “I hope you all enjoy a wonderful holiday, even if it looks a little different this year. Please be careful so we can hold on to the progress we’ve made.” 

Beshear’s Chief of Staff La Tasha Buckner was also vaccinated, as well as his senior advisor Rocky Adkins and executive director of the Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Virginia Moore. 

Beshear reported 2,953 new cases, bringing the state total to 250,280 cases. There were also 26 deaths. He also reported 1,644 hospitalizations including 413 people in the ICU and 222 people on ventilators. The state positivity rate is 8.35%

Calloway County Health Department reported 25 new cases Wednesday, bringing the county total to 2,206 cases, including 11 hospitalizations and 35 deaths. Murray Calloway County Hospital reported the county positivity rate is 9.05%.
