Graves County has elected Democrat Jon Hayden to serve as the county sheriff. Hayden won the race with 71 percent of the vote compared to 29 percent support for Republican Jason Clark.
Hayden was appointed interim sheriff in March by Judge/Executive Jesse Perry. That vacancy came after the death of former sheriff Dewayne Redmon. Redmon was indicted on drug possession charges in August but won re-election in November.
Hayden said he hopes to use his time as sheriff to mend public distrust of the sheriff's office.
“It’s my job to try to bridge that gap and try to mend some relationships that have been broken over these unfortunate chain of events that have occured recently here in Graves County,” Hayden said.
Hayden served as McCracken County sheriff before becoming Graves County sheriff. He is a native of Graves county.
