Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, at his daily COVID-19 press conference Thursday, said a data breach in April exposed the personal information of some unemployment insurance claimants.
The breach allowed some website visitors to view documents uploaded to the unemployment portal by other claimants. Deputy Education and Workforce Development Secretary Josh Benton said the breach was discovered at 9:17 a.m. on April 23 after a user reported the visible personal information on the unemployment portal. The portal was temporarily removed, and a software patch was issued later in the day to fix the issue.
“From all indications, the patch that was created that evening was successful,” Benton said.
Beshear also announced new additions to the current phase of the “Healthy at Work” initiative. Louisville’s Kentucky Kingdom theme park will open the week of June 29, as well as a limited reopening of public pools. Every state park will reopen June 1, including previously closed parks such as Lake Barkley State Park that were used as temporary housing for those self-isolating.
