Murray State University is discontinuing its current search for a new Associate Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management.

President Bob Davies said in a release on Monday the university will restart the search later this academic year. He said the university will most likely utilize a national search firm in the new search process.

Murray State had recently narrowed the search to two finalists: Scott Gordon, who has served in various enrollment positions at Western Kentucky University; and Shawn Smee, who has served as the director of MSU’s Office of Recruitment.

Davies thanked Dean Tim Todd and the Search Committee and noted that both finalists had “identifiable strengths.” He said the decision to discontinue the search was based on discussions and recommendations with "numerous members of the University leadership team and others."

Davies said the university has initiated discussions with higher ed interim company, The Registry. He said the company will provide several candidates within the next few days to serve as interim Chief Enrollment Officer for a year. This person would begin in the latter half of August.

Fred Dietz served as MSU’s Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management and left in the spring for a similar position at Midwestern State University in Texas.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
