WKMS News Wins AP Awards

The Kentucky Associated Press notified WKMS News that its work for Murray State’s listener supported radio service has taken home several KAPB awards, including First Place awards for Best Political Coverage and Best Special/Series Documentary.

News Director and Assistant Station Manager, Chad Lampe expresses, "I'm proud of our team for such a great showing. The awards validate that our young team of students and recent graduates produce high quality content that resonates with listeners." 

Lampe, John Null and Whitney Jones won first place for Best Political Coverage with “Fancy Farm 2014: Reigning In the Shoutfests.” Lampe also won first place for Best Special/Series Documentary with “Living on the Line: Angie Smith.”

Whitney Jones won second place for Best Long Sports Feature with “Murray State Racer Basketball Team Plays Tournament Without Its Biggest Fan.” Chad Lampe won second place for Best Use of Sound with “From Flashbulb to Flashpoint the Attempts to Curb Fancy Farm Shout-Fests.”

Honorable Mentions went to John Null for Best Long Enterprise Reporting with "'All-Important Egg Bill' Awaits Governor's Signature” and to Whitney Jones for Best Long Public Affairs with “Carp(e) Diem: Kentucky Sends Invasive Fish To China.”

WKMS broadcasts a continuous, comprehensive mix of news and music, including its 24 hour all classical channel. The station serves nearly 30,000 listeners in western Kentucky, southernmost Illinois and northwestern Tennessee. Jenni holds a degree in Music Education from Murray State University and a Masters degree in Arts Administration from Florida State University's College of Music. She also serves as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and on the Murray Independent School District Foundation for Excellence Board of Directors.
