Bombing
- NPR's Phillip Davis reports from London that a bomb has exploded in Manchester, England today (Saturday) injuring about 200 people. No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing, but British Prime Minister John Major blames the Irish Repubican Army.
United Front
Edmund Roy reports that the largest party in the Indian parliament has resigned, unable to form a coalition. The United Front -- a coalition of lower caste and left-leaning parties -- is now trying to form a government to run the world's largest democracy.
Boris On The Campaign Trail
NPR's Anne Garrels reports from the presidential campaign trail in Russia. Polls indicate Russian President Yeltsin is ahead, but no one trusts those polls, least of all the Yeltsin campaign.
Landmark College
Tatiana Schreiber (tah-CHAH-na SHRY-bur) reports on the only accredited college in the U.S. exclusively serving students with learning disabilities. She attends a recent graduation ceremony to talk with students and teachers.
Factory Closing
- NPR's Adam Hochberg reports that later this month, the oldest textile mill in the south will be closing. It's the Rocky Mount mill in North Carolina. The mill opened in 1818, and its closing mirrors the fate of other mills in the U.S.
