This morning an Air Force plane carrying Commerce Secretary Ron Brown and as many as 30 other passengers crashed in the Adriatic, a few miles from Dubrovnik, Croatia. Secretary Brown was on a trade mission with U-S business executives. NPR's Martha Raddatz reports on the details of the crash.

Former Mayor of Cleveland, Carl Stokes, died today at age sixty-eight. Harry Boomer from member station WCPN in Cleveland reports that Stokes, who grew up in a housing project and was the great-grandson of a slave, was the Mayor of Cleveland for eight years.

Chris Hoskin of member station WFAE reports that an early morning fire at a nursing home in Laurinburg, North Carolina killed eight elderly men. Law enforcement officials are blaming an uncovered electrical outlet. They say smoke inhalation claimed most of the victims.

Jillian Sharpe of the BBC reports from the Hagues on the arrests of two Bosnian citizens who have been arrested for committing crimes against Bosnian Serbs. The International War Crimes Tribunal detained the two men yesterday in Austria and Germany, and they are expected to be indicted soon.
