Loyalty To Employers
The concept of worker loyalty sounds quaint in this era of corporate downsizing and outsourcing. But as NPR's David Molpus reports, some companies and experts are recognizing that it pays off, in the long run, to keep workers, and keep them happy, by making certain that they feel fulfilled and valued.

NPR's Mary Kay Magistad reports on this weekend's ASEAN meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia. Burma was admitted as an observor to the meeting amidst international protest against Burma's military junta and it's treatment of pro-democracy activists. Some hope ASEAN will encourgae dialogue between the Burmese government and activists.
Gore In Moscow
NPR's Anne Garrels reports that the questions about Russian President Boris Yeltsin's health have not been fully answered. Vice President Gore met with President Yeltsin this morning and pronounced him in good shape. It wasn't enough to stop the speculation about Yeltsin's health.
Biograph Obit
- NPR's Pat Dowell reports on the death of the 28-year old Biograph Theater of Washington, DC. Like other movie theaters across the nation, the Biograph achieved success by showing classic, independent,and foreign films in the days before the home videocassette machine.
Teamsters
NPR's Don Gonyea reports from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Convention in Philadelphia. Teamsters President Ron Carey and Jimmy Hoffa, the son of the notorius teamster boss, have accepted nominations for the union presidency. The stage is now set for a contentious campaign between the reform and old-guard elements of the union.
Twa Recovery
- NPR's Tovia Smith reports on the latest in the investigation into the explosion which destroyed TWA Flight 800 last week off the coast of New York. Investigators still have not determined what caused the explosion which killed more than 200 people on board.
Olympic Shanty
NPR's Adam Hochberg reports from Atlanta on a group of high school students who travelled to that city after being promised work and housing at the Olympic games. Once they got there, they found neither, and now city officials are trying to figure out how to send them home.
Zaire News
NPR's Jennifer Ludden reports that in Zaire, there are signs of a possible breakthrough in the standoff between the country's president Mobutu Sese Seko...and rebel leader Laurent Kabila. Kabila controls nearly half of Zaire and his army has been advancing toward the capitol Kinshasa.
Cat Dna
NPR's Joe Palca reports that for the first time, analysis of cat DNA has been used to help convict someone of murder. Cat hairs were found on a jacket splattered with the victims blood. Analysis of the DNA in the hairs showed that it matched DNA of a cat that lived with the prime suspect.
