India - Earthquake
NPR's Michael Sullivan reports from Ahmedabad, India where the death toll from Friday's earthquake is expected to rise to 13, 000. The quake, which registered 7. 9 in magnitude, devastated cities in the western state of Gujarat and has left tens of thousands of people homeless.
California Energy Crisis
California Governor Gray Davis says a bond proposal could resolve the state's energy crisis. But consumer groups criticize the plan as a tax-payer bailout of electric companies. NPR's Elaine Korry reports from San Francisco.
Deregulation
For the past two weeks, California's energy problems have caused governers across the country to take notice. The rolling blackouts in California have led to other states rolling back their plans to consider energy deregulation. NPR's Jim Zarroli reports.

Illegal Lotteries
Playing "the numbers", a kind of illegal lottery, is not as popular as it was a generation ago. State run lotteries have largely replaced the street game. But Tandaleya Wilder reports that, for certain older Philadelphians, playing the numbers was an important part of community life.

Indonesian President
Host Bob Edwards speaks with the BBC's Richard Galpin about Indonesia's President Abdurrahman Wahid. Indonesian parliament today released a report that accuses the President of corruption. Demonstrators by the thousands have been flooding the streets of Jakarta, demanding Wahid's removal.
