NPR's Jim Zarroli reports that New York city landlords and striking building maintenance workers resumed negotiations today. Some 30 thousand maintenance workers, elevator operators, janitors and other personnel have been on strike. Labor Secretary Robert Reich participated in the negotiations today in hopes of forcing a settlement.

NPR's David Welna reports on the rising tide of protest against President Ernesto Samper of Colombia who is being accused of accepting money from the Cali drug cartel. Members of Samper's government are distancing themselves from the president...while thousands of students and citizens have taken to the streets demanding Samper's resignation.

DAY BIRTHS - Tandaleya Wilder of Connecticut Public Radio reports that a hospital in Greenwich has decided not to discharge mothers who've given birth after only one day, as most insurance companies insist. Hospital officials say one-day stays are dangerous for newborn babies and their mothers. The second day's stay will be at the hospital's expense.

NPR's Adam Hochberg reports that the blizzard that paralayzed the Northeast also dumped unprecedented amounts of snow in the South. Thousands are without power in North Carolina Virginia, and Kentucky, and at least 14 people have died in storm related incidents. Many say they've never seen this much snow.

NPR'S JULIE MCCARTHY REPORTS FROM SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA THAT PROSECUTORS HAVE ISSUED AN ARREST WARRANT FOR FORMER PRESIDENT CHUN DOO-HWAN. THIS WOULD BE THE SECOND ARREST OF A FORMER PRESIDENT WITHIN A MONTH. FORMER PRESIDENT ROH TAE-WOO IS BEING HELD ON CORRUPTION CHARGES.

NPR's John McChesney reports that many computers used by government and industry may stop working in the year 2000. The problem has to do with the fact that many of these computers record dates using only the last two digits of the year..and that if you enter zero zero for 2000...many of these machines will get confused.

NPR's Jim Zarroli reports that businesses throughout the area affected by the storm struggled to reopen today. Airports managed to resume operations, though officials warned it will be several days before the schedules return to normal. Meanwhile, more snow fell in the Washington, D.C. area, causing additional problems for commuters.
