NPR's Jennifer Ludden in Nairobi reports that questions have been raised about a planned air drop of relief supplies to Rwandan refugees in Zaire. Zaire's government opposes the plan. The supplies are intended for refugees who have been cut-off by fighting between the Zairean government and rebels.

CIA official Harold Nicholson pleaded not guilty to a spying charge today. Nicholson is accused of providing Russia with U.S. classified documents and revealing the identities of agents during the last two years. NPR's Paul Miller reports.

Lobsters To Europe
Steve Tripoli has a report on the annual two-week intensive lobster harvest in New England, which culminates this week. The harvest and shipping season coincides with the tremendous seasonal demand in Europe for lobsters, which are part of the traditional New Year's meal in that part of the world.

Big Sur Fires
Jeff Barry of member station KCLU in Thousand Oaks, California, reports on the giant wildfire in Big Sur. While the fire is mostly contained, authorities say they expect it to consume at least twenty thousand acres before it's completely extinguished.

Hell's Angels
The BBC's Julian Isherwood reports from Denmark that six members of the Hell's Angels motorcycle gang have gone to trial, charged with the murder of a member of a rival gang. The killing is part of a feud between motorcycle gangs that has been plaguing all of Scandinavia for the last two years.

Avis
NPR's Adam Hochberg reports that some customers of Avis say the company wouldn't rent them cars because they're black. A class action suit was filed against a North Carolina franchise of Avis for racial discrimination. Some former employees have also joined the suit.

NPR's David Baron reports that wild turkeys, once endangered, are now making a comeback in the nation's forests. Unregulated hunting and the widespread clearing of land for farming had made the turkeys rare...but now, after careful monitoring and preservation efforts, the birds are staging a remarkable recovery.

Central Europe Freezes
Europe is suffering through extremely harsh weather conditions this week. NPR's Michael Goldfarb reports that the normal winter-time weather patterns have changed. This week, Europe is affected by cold winds blowing out of Russia. Temperatures in some areas have dropped to as low as 34 degrees below zero.
