Yesterday New Hampshire's Senate opened the trial to hear charges against Chief Justice David Brock. He is accused of lying to investigators, making an improper call to a lower-court judge and soliciting comments from another justice about a divorce case.

NPR's Julie Rovner reports on Congressional efforts to reduce the cost of prescription drugs. An amendment to the annual spending bill for the Department of Agriculture would allow pharmacists and wholesalers to import U.S.-approved drugs from Canada and Mexico, where costs for those drugs are lower. But the drug industry says this could allow unsafe or contaminated drugs into the market.

NPR's Peter Kenyon reports that George W. Bush and Al Gore have agreed on a series of debates. The two candidates both endorsed a plan presented by the b-partisan commission on presidential debates earlier this year. But third party candidates may find it difficult to be included...unless they show at least a 15-percent support rate nationally, they will not be invited to participate.

Energy Secretary Bill Richardson returned to Capitol Hill today for a grilling by yet another Congressional committee. Today, it was the House Committee on Government Reform. Questions had to do with the high price of gasoline and home heating fuel. NPR's Brian Naylor reports that Richardson -- like Vice President Al Gore -- has warmed up to the idea of releasing some of the national oil reserves as a means of lowering prices.

NPR's Phillip Davis reports from Miami that the eight Cubans rescued at sea are now in the US for "medical reasons" and may be allowed to stay. The group commandeered a old Russian-built crop duster yesterday and crashed into the Gulf of Mexico. One died, two others are in the hospital for medical treatment, while the remaining seven have been released into Immigration and Naturalization Service custody.
