for the presidency of the Teamsters Union. Incumbent Ron Carey, a former UPS driver, is credited with eliminating much of the corruption troubling the union for decades. Challenger Jim Hoffa, a labor lawyer, is the son of Jimmy Hoffa, who led the Teamsters from 1958 to 1967. A federally appointed election officer begins counting approximately half-a-million ballots today.

Defense teams for bombing suspects Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols will be in court today asking the judge to hold a hearing to decide whether the witnesses should be allowed to testify.

The designation may make it more difficult for the Haqqanis to raise money. It also may further damage relations between the U.S. and Pakistan. American officials have accused Pakistani intelligence services of supporting the Haqqanis.

U.S. Report Confirms 2016 Was The Hottest Year On Record
2016 was the warmest year on record, according to a new report by the U.S. government. This is the third year in a row that global temperatures have soared above the 20th century average. The report comes ahead of the inauguration of Donald Trump, who has at times, referred to global warming as a "hoax."
