Canaan Named Associated Press & Wooden All-American

Murray State junior Isaiah Canaan picked up another pair of honors Monday afternoon as The Associated Press named him Second Team All-America, and he was also selected to the John R. Wooden All-American team.

Canaan received 30 first place votes from AP writers, tied for fourth-most among all selections and had the fifth-most total points with 232. He is joined on the second team with: Marcus Denmon of of Missouri, Tyler Zeller of  North Carolina, Jae Crowder of Marquette and Kevin Jones of West Virginia.

The AP First Team consists of: Thomas Robinson of Kansas, Jared Sullinger of Ohio State, Anthony Davis of Kentucky, Draymond Green of Michigan State and Doug McDermott of Creighton.

Canaan, a native of Biloxi, Miss., was one of 10 players selected to the 2012 Wooden All-American team. He is joined on the Wooden team with the same AP All-America picks.

Canaan is a three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, the 2012 OVC Player of the Year and is currently ranked averaged a 24th best in the nation 19.0 points per game. He is also ranked sixth in the nation shooting 45.6 percent from behind the arc and 13th in the nation with 2.97 made three-point baskets per game.

His notoriety this season has come with great play and being on a great team.  The Racers were one of the big stories of the season which included a 23-0 start and being the final undefeated team. MSU also enjoyed their highest national rankings and were the only NCAA Division I team to win every game on the road. MSU was the OVC's regular season and tournament champion and beat Colorado State in the NCAA Tournament before they lost to Marquette.

The AP and Wooden honors for Canaan, go with his other awards so far including: First Team All-America by The Sporting News, USBWA Second Team All-America and NABC Third Team All-America. Canaan has also been considered for the Naismith, Robertson, Cousy and Henson Awards.
