Board members of Murray’s Gentry House are working to keep the Murray non-profit housing for homeless families open past its Jan. 31 closing date.
Volunteer director Melinda Johnson says the board met with members of the Murray Human Rights Commission Thursday to further discuss the non-profit’s needs and possible long-term funding options.
“We’re paddling as fast as we can to find secure sources of funding that’s something that’s going to be dedicated to maintaining the units and a paid position,” she says.
Johnson says Gentry House has been operating too long in crisis management. She says the housing for homeless families with children has been surviving month to month for two years because funding options from the state and grants have dried up.
The Murray City Council also discussed what could keep the non-profit open at its meeting Thursday.
