Calloway County Patriot Grave Marking Ceremony Scheduled for Saturday

WKMS

The Captain Wendell Oury Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonel Stephen Trigg Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution are sponsoring a patriot grave marking ceremony for revolutionary war soldier, Private William Bonner, Saturday, April 11.

Hear WKMS' Kate Lochte speak with Ann Uddberg about the process of certifying Private Bonner's presence in the family burial grounds through the query of his ancestor Mary Jane Littleton, retired educator and artist.

Private Bonner was a potter, with his occupation giving rise to the area of East Calloway known as Pottertown.

There are about 20 Revolutionary War veterans buried in Calloway County, but this is the first marking ceremony.
The marking ceremony is expected to take about an hour with a display of flags of the thirteen colonies, a representation of men wearing Revolutionary War era style uniforms, shooting off black powder rifles, and taps, in addition to speakers, including Ms. Littleton.

It's open to the public at 3 p.m. Saturday.
