The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said a settlement agreement was reached this year involving a cargo ship crashing into the old Eggners Ferry Bridge in 2012.
KYTC issued a brief statement on Tuesday that said the Foss Maritime Company agreed in February to pay the cabinet $3,375,000 dollars. The statement did not elaborate or explain why the information was now being released. No further information is available after follow-up.
In January 2012, the 8,200-ton Delta Mariner sheared off a 322-foot-span of the bridge.
The National Transportation Safety Board said in 2013 factors included poor bridge span lighting and the crew’s inattention to available navigational tools.
KYTC spent some $7 million to repair the span in 2012.
The former bridge was demolished in 2016 following the construction of a newer, wider bridge.
