Murray State Suspends Greek Life Social Activities Until Further Notice

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Murray State University is suspending all greek social activities until a review of the Greek Social Event policy is complete.

The move comes after a visitor to Murray State died in an off-campus fraternity house in April, and a reported sexual assault in an off-campus fraternity house last week.

The decision was announced in a letter to the Greek Life Community signed by several university officials including President Bob Davies and Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Don Robertson.

The letter states that the decision was based on “national trends and our own review of reports involving Greek activitiesoccuring with the implementation and enforcement of the Greek Social Event policy.”

The letter went on to say that a university committee will conduct a thorough investigation of current policies and procedures to provide a safe environment for all.

The suspension is effective immediately and could extend into the upcoming fall semester.
