The Boys and Girls Club of Hopkinsville-Christian County is building a new kitchen and cafeteria to feed children in afterschool programs.

The Hopkinsville Rotary Club donated $200,000 toward the effort this week, ending the BGC’s capital campaign. Hopkinsville BGC executive director Terrence Davis said they will break ground in September. He said the 2,100 square-feet facility will help the club serve consistent meals and provide additional space for kids. He said 145 kids a day currently attend afterschool programs.

"And we hope to increase that by at least 20 kids with the addition of the cafeteria," Davis said.

Davis said the kitchen and cafeteria costs almost $640,000 dollars and should be ready by next spring.
