McCracken County Public Library Director Susan Baier has resigned to accept a position leading a library in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
A McCracken County Public Library press release Thursday states Baier accepted a position as Executive Director of the Allen County Public Library, and her last day of employment will be February 10.
Serving as McCracken County Public Library director for four years, the release states Baier built partnerships that support community initiatives surrounding workforce and economic development, STEM education, and health and wellness. The library also acquired a bookmobile, eliminated overdue fines, and made services more accessible to the public.
Baier’s new position with ACPL will have her oversee a main library location plus 13 branches within Fort Wayne and outlying communities.
“I will forever be grateful for the kindness and support shown to me by the Board of Trustees. It has truly been a privilege to serve as your Library Director and to work with such dedicated, talented staff,” Baier said in a statement.“The Board has demonstrated tremendous leadership, fiscal stewardship, and compassion, particularly during these challenging times. McCracken County is incredibly fortunate to have trustees of the Board’s caliber serving the Library and the community.”
McCracken County Library Board Chair Rachel Norton said she appreciated Baier’s time as director and that the library has a strong staff committed to continuing the library’s excellence while they search for a new director.
“During her four years with the McCracken County Public Library, Susan has worked tirelessly to give back to the Library and our community,” Norton said.“She has built key partnerships between the Library and community organizations which we plan to continue going forward.”
The library board of trustees will begin the recruitment process for a new director and will appoint an interim director in the coming weeks.
