WKMS Selected for Report for America Program

WKMS is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a Report for America partner. WKMS will join an expanding network of some 270 newsrooms benefiting from the support of this nonprofit. Through this partnership, the station will expand its coverage of Rural communities in Kentucky with a new reporter in the newsroom in early summer 2022.

Station Manager Chad Lampe says, “We have been studying the great work Report for America journalists do across the country, and we’ve aspired to be selected as a partner newsroom for the last few years. We’re simply thrilled. WKMS’ reporter will cover some of the region’s most rural communities to shine a light on income disparity and social access.” In the new year, WKMS will also be participating in the CPB’s Digital Transformation Program, a virtual program developed by the Poynter Institute to educate, assist, and coach stations on the best strategies and tactics to transform their organization’s digital operations and culture.

Report for America is a national service program that places journalists into local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities. It’s is a two-year program that delivers a wide-range of benefits to its corps members. Beyond paying up to half of the journalists’ salaries, it provides ongoing training and mentorship by leading journalists, peer networking, and memberships to select professional organizations.
