Rep. Norma Torres, D-Calif., gave an impassioned account of the events that took place on Jan. 6, when a mob of pro-Trump extremists breached the Capitol and forced lawmakers into hiding.

President Trump denied culpability for the violence and expressed no regret for comments made last week that many have criticized as being a catalyst for mob violence at the U.S. Capitol.

"I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our Nation or consistent with our Constitution," the vice president wrote on Tuesday evening.
