A new bill filed in the Kentucky House of Representatives would strike three Confederate holidays from Kentucky’s statute on public holidays.

The chamber has the power to expel or censure members for their conduct, though it's a rare occurrence. Only 24 have received such sanctions since 1780.

Rallies are happening from Atlanta to Los Angeles — including in Galveston, Texas, where the holiday was born. Amid a reckoning around race, this year's Juneteenth has an even more urgent meaning.
