The two leading House legislators were briefed following a report that California Rep. Eric Swalwell and others had been targeted for information by a suspected Chinese spy.

The House has a critical to-do list for a new Congress, which includes leadership and legislative battles. Lawmakers still have business for the lame duck session, but now will have testing protocols.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer will continue in their leadership roles in the next Congress. But control of the chamber won't be decided until January.
