A last-minute addition to a previously uncontroversial bill would largely eliminate the ability for many state employees to work remotely.

In closing five of its newsrooms permanently, Tribune Publishing said it saw "no clear path forward in terms of returning to work." But affected unions argued the closures were unnecessary.

With more people now working from home, employers are increasingly relying on tracking software to monitor what employees do when they're on the clock.
