The Empty Bowls Project returns to Paducah at the Julian M. Carroll Convention Center February 15. The evening is a fundraiser for The Community Kitchen of Paducah, and gathers over 1,400 hand-made ceramic bowls and over a dozen different restaurants for an opportunity to feed the most fragile members of our community. Kate Lochte speaks with Michael Terra of Terra Cottage Ceramics about the event.
"We have 16 local food "people" who have agreed to bring food personnel, set up a table at the convention center on the 15th, and offer their food for free so we can support people who need to be eating all year long. And I am just so impressed when individual restaurants decide to support at a local community level in this very, very intimate and direct way."
Michael Terra discusses the "plague" of hunger that affects more people, locally, than we realize. Terra explains the Empty Bowls project to Kate in hopes of raising awareness so that maybe one day, Terra Cottage Ceramics may not have to participate in the Empty Bowls Project because nobody will be going hungry.
For the price of your ticket you get to choose any one of the handmade bowls in front of you, have it filled by any one of the restaurants there at the event (a pretty terrific lunch!) and you go home with your bowl as a token of your commitment to your neighbors! It is one of the most heartwarming and fun events of the year.
