Acclaimed Nashville Writer Kicks Off MFA Reading Series

vanderbilt.edu

Two decades after his debut collection "Here We Are in Paradise" heralded Tony Earley as one of the most accomplished writers of his generation, his latest work coming out in August re-affirms his story-telling prowess. We meet Mr. Earley on Sounds Good today, in advance of his 7:30 p.m. Sunday presentation for the Murray State MFA Reading Series.

Murray State's MFA Reading Series opens Sunday with Vanderbilt University's Tony Earley presenting at 7:30 p.m. in Clara M. Eagle Gallery. Two decades after his debut collection Here We Are in Paradise, Earley's newest work comes out next month. Earley became the Samuel Milton Fleming Chair in English at Vandy in 1997, having been included among Granta's list of "Best of Young American Novelists." He also appeared on The New Yorker list of "Twenty Best Young Fiction Writers in America" in the late 90's. His novels include Jim The Boy and The Blue Star. His stories have appeared in The New Yorker, Harper's, and Esquire.

The stories of Mr. Tall, coming out next month, reestablish him as a myth-maker and tale spinner of the first rank. Tony Earley is the Samuel Milton Fleming Chair in English at Vanderbilt.
