'A Celebration of Music' Showcases MSU Student Ensembles at The Carson Center

Thursday evening, September 25, student ensembles of Murray State's Department of Music put on a big show, "A Celebration of Music" at Paducah's Carson Center. It's a free event showcasing over 350 students from several genres from classic standards to swing and jazz. We learn more about it on Sounds Good with Murray's Department of Music Chair, Dr. Pam Wurgler, and Murray College of Humanities and Fine Arts Development Officer, Tina Bernot.

"A Celebration of Music" culminates in a grand finale featuring over 250 members of Murray State's marching band filling The Carson Center theatre. If that isn't enough reason to attend, the event showcases the musical talents of Murray State's Men's Chorale, Concert Choir and Chorus, Trumpet Ensemble, Women's University Chorale and Concert Choir, Guitar Quartet, Symphony Orchestra, Piano Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, Guitar Quartet, Percussion Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, and Symphonic Wind Ensemble. It's a night of over 350 students, many of them music majors training to become professional musicians and educators, but also students from different majors who have an interest in music performance.

Event is at 6:30, Thursday, September 25 - FREE

High school students interested in becoming music majors or minors are encouraged to attend. In the last academic year, alumni and donors raised $180,000 in private scholarship funds for students. Listeners can help by contacting Tina Bernot at cbernot@murraystate.edu or 270-809-3250.

Event sponsors are the City of Paducah, McCracken County, Independence Bank, WKMS, Paducah Economic Development and Murray State University.
