Singer-songwriter John Prine is set to play the International Bluegrass Music Museum’s ROMP festival in 2015.

Museum Promotions Director Chris Langdon says Prine has been on their list for several years but was unable to play at ROMP due to scheduling issues.

Prine has connections to western Kentucky. His family lived in Muhlenberg County before moving to Chicago, and his song “Paradise” is about the town they are from where there is now a coal-fired power plant.

Langdon says ROMP aims to continue the traditions of bluegrass but also highlight progressive artists in the genre. The festival’s full line up is not yet available but the dates are set for June 24-27 in Owensboro.

The 2014 festival featured Old Crow Medicine Show, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Sam Bush Band, Del McCoury Band, and many others.

Whitney grew up listening to Car Talk to and from her family’s beach vacation each year, but it wasn’t until a friend introduced her to This American Life that radio really grabbed her attention. She is a recent graduate from Union University in Jackson, Tenn., where she studied journalism. When she’s not at WKMS, you can find her working on her backyard compost pile and garden, getting lost on her bicycle or crocheting one massive blanket.
