All are invited to the annual “Swing in to Spring” jazz concert at Murray State’s Lovett Auditorium on Tuesday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m.
This live concert and radio show harkens back to a bygone era and features the MSU Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Band and Jazz Lab Big Band, plus the Blue, Gold, and White Jazz Combos.
Audience members’ applause will round-out the live broadcast experience as Murray State’s public radio station, 91.3 WKMS, airs the concert live on the radio and streaming online.
Dr. Todd Hill directs the Jazz Ensembles while Mark Welch serves as the night’s announcer. Special guests Dr. Trey and Dr. Vee (Bob McGaughey and Bob Valentine) will add color commentary and hijinks between performances.
Tunes you’ll be sure to enjoy include Tommy Dorsey's “Sunny Side of the Street,” Sonny Rollins' "St. Thomas," and Duke Ellington's "Black and Tan Fantasy." The six jazz groups will be joined on tunes by MSU Vocal Group "EQ Blue" directed by Dr. Chris Mitchell, guest artist Dr. Derek Jones on tenor sax, and vocalist Emily Duff.
This concert is free to the public.
This special live broadcast WKMS preempts Tuesday’s World Cafe.
